The Making of a Graphic Novel/The Resonator
THE MAKING OF A GRAPHIC NOVEL/THE RESONATOR (Watson-Guptill Publications, 2006) is two books in one. Oriented one way, it’s a 100-page black and white sci-fi graphic novel—The Resonator; set over a thousand years in the future, when humans no longer sleep, it tells the story of a space-going miner and his desperate gambit to save the life of the only surviving Resonator, a creature that can induce sleep in humans. Flip the book over, and it’s The Making of a Graphic Novel, a step-by-step walk-through of the process of realizing The Resonator on paper—from writing to penciling to inking to lettering. I aim for all of my art instruction books to be entertaining as well as informative, and this one strikes the perfect balance. I’m especially proud of this book—enjoy some choice images from it presented here.
